I guess I have mixed emotions about the conference. I had trouble staying connected within the conference and then when Glen began having final comments, I was kicked right out of Skype and by the time I was reconnected, everyone was gone. I really like it when we have connected as a small group, I didn’t have any problems staying connected. I am not sure why I was having this problem. My teenager plays on this computer for hours and never, unfortunately, gets disconnected
As for Literacy with ICT; I have been on the action research team for the past two years and am currently very frustrated within our district with the whole implementation of it. I think people have to get out of the “technology” frame of mind and more into an “infusion” frame of mind. I guess I feel at a disadvantage in the current course as I do not have a student body to try these tools with. I read other’s blogs and find it fascinating how these tools are being used within the classroom. What I have done with the information that I am receiving from this course is sharing it with one of the teachers so he can use it immediately with his students. I hope to at some point share this with out whole staff and work with the teachers using some of these tools. Once I get more comfortable that is.

One huge concern that I have is the huge gap between the teachers and students who have been using technology and those who have not. Sometimes I wonder how we’ll ever bridge that gap because it seems to me that technology is moving faster and faster. At one time it seemed that changes came out in a year, then in six months, then three months… It’s getting to the point that sometimes I’m not even sure that we’re talking the same language any more. In some ways the technology is easier to use but the concepts themselves are so much more complex and often rely on prior experience and knowledge.
I agree with your there. I think I am really advanced using all of these great tools on the web during this course so I begin to explain them to my 16 year old, hoping he will be very impressed with my knowledge. However, I quickly find out that this is nothing new to him so he begins to tell why they are good tools or not so good tools. He obviously knows more than I do at this stage
i use skype frequently. i’m not sure how many of you were trying to get into one call, but only 9 are able to skype-conference at once. i think it has something to do with bandwith, upload/download capabilities. ….but just thought it may have been the reason you got kicked off
